Micro-LAM (Portage, MI), which manufactures laser cutting systems for ultra-precision CNC machining, has acquired 603OPTX (Keene, NH), an optical fabrication company specializing in the fabrication of precision optical components. The acquisition aims to extend R&D, prototyping, and preproduction capabilities to Micro-LAM customers, and further support them with optional production and fabrication expertise through 603OPTX’s turnkey capabilities.
Micro-LAM’s cutting technologies equip precision machines with a hybrid laser-diamond cutting system. Micro-LAM CEO Deepak Ravindra, Ph.D., explains that the acquisition will enable the company to provide additional support and services, such as diamond-turning glass optics, specially targeted toward addressing their customer’s challenges.
“Combining the forces and expertise between the laser-assisted technology group, our ultra-precision cutting tool division in the UK, M10 Edge Ltd., and the fabrication expertise at 603, customers can now envision a highly innovative experience, geared toward de-risking customers while providing them with a competitive edge,” Ravindra says.
The companies will begin working together in January 2021.
