Macy’s Will Offer Free Same-Day Delivery On $75 Orders For Limited Time
Starting Oct. 1, Macy’s will offer free same-day delivery in 30 U.S. markets on orders of $75 or more, waiving the company’s typical $8 fee — at least temporarily. While the perk will be available for a limited time, Macy’s has not indicated exactly how long it will last.
Macy’s Chief Product and Digital Revenue Officer Jill Ramsey revealed the new initiative at the WWD Digital Summit. With 2019 holiday preparation already in full swing, it’s likely the decision was timed with the peak season, similar to the ways Amazon, Walmart and Target expanded their free shipping options ahead of the season last year.
Customers who choose same-day delivery at checkout on qualifying orders placed by noon local time Monday through Saturday, or by 10 am local time on Sunday, will receive items the same day. Orders placed after the cutoff times will be delivered the following day.
Macy’s and Bloomingdale’s first offered same-day delivery as part of a pilot in 2014 with third-party courier network Deliv in select markets, before expanding the concept to 33 markets by late 2017. But these initiatives always came with the $8 fee, with the free shipping thresholds then being $99 at Macy’s and $150 at Bloomingdale’s.
Deliv continues to power Macy’s same-day delivery capabilities. Once the free limited-time offer ends, same-day delivery orders of $75 or more will once again be subject to the $8 fee.
